History:
MaryEllen Malinowski fell in love with her first camera at the age of ten, a gift given to her from her mother. Escaping out of the world she experienced, the camera lifted her into a world that she envisioned, and interpreted as her own. Malinowski reflects on childhood memories of mailing film cartridges out for processing, anxiously awaiting for the mail carrier to bring her package, the following week. Using her weekly allowance for film and processing, she captured the world around her. Malinowski still has all of her negatives from her childhood interpretations.
Malinowski has been a freelance photographer since the age of sixteen, focusing on both black and white and color work (including underwater). The high school darkroom, was where an even deeper connection was made, with image and print... and in which she first dedicated herself to printmaking.
Prior to 1992, for eight years MaryEllen Malinowski was the owner and creative director of Visual Elements, a visual design business in Illinois. Malinowski designed visuals for clients, including major retailers such as Marshall Fields, Carson Pirie Scott, Spiess, Hallmark, Enesco and corporations such as The North Shore Sheraton and United Stationers. In 1991, Malinowski was the guest speaker at the WAVM, Western Association for Visual Merchandising conference, in San Diego, California. Malinowski has documented, through interpretation, her years looking through the glass of the windows. It was in the year of 1992, that Malinowski learned first hand, the power of the spirit, and the importance of that connection between love and light. After experiencing a medical emergency with her newborn daughter, she altered her life direction and returned to her true love and passion... photography. Since 1992, Malinowski has returned to photography full time, focusing on the path of fine art photography. In 1993, at an exhibition at a local college, she first set her eyes on infrared photography, and has been captive ever since.
In 1996, Malinowski created "In the eyes of a child", photography workshops exclusively for children, which she taught out of her darkroom and studio. Malinowski continues to support and encourage photography programs for children, giving workshops about photography, including presentations about infrared ... the invisible light.
In 1999, Malinowski spent two years on the East Coast, traveling throughout New England, capturing infrared photographic images of the coast, and continuing her studies in Eastern philosophy. Following their time in New England, they built a home studio and gallery in Houston, Texas, where she continued her sacred journey of capturing the invisible light and her search for the truth within it. MaryEllen and her family have come full circle now, returning home to Saint Charles, Illinois. Recognized internationally as a fine art portrait photographer, MaryEllen has turned to nature and the sacred sanctuary she lives and works from and is dedicated to preserving. Through her eyes we will once again see a different light, a different perspective of the natural beauty and revelations that she shares.
