At The Koi Whisperer Sanctuary, we inspire Koi Keeping of both domestic and imported koi. Our mission is to Import, Rescue, Heal, Adopt and Educate on Holistic Koi Care and the History and Preservation of the Nishikigoi internationally, the Living Jewels. The Kids for Koi Program, The Koi Whisperer Koi Lab and Shinju Koi Food, imported from Hawaii are all new paths that have been developed because of M working from her heart and with passion. The Koi Whisperer's Keepers is an International Program to educate others who too, want to make a difference for the Koi.

M's Story
| Studying Japanese culture for so many
years, it was natural for me. The history of the Nishikigoi, the koi amazed
me. To see the colors and patterns that are bred today, and to know the
history of these "Living Jewels"... that it all began from the common carp,
is a truly a treasure and an honor to be a part of now. I have been lucky to
have breeding occur in my pond for several years thanks to my friend Mark
and everything he taught me.
It was not until the spring in 2010, when I was helping out at a water garden center in St. Charles that I realized the Koi might just need my help just a little bit more.Yes... I always talk to the Koi, but it was the first day of an annual Water Garden event that everything changed. Many Koi had jumped out of the tank during the night... huge beautiful Koi that were brought in specifically for the event. I was told about the incident and immediately went into the black bag that they were put in, to see which ones had died. That is when I noticed one slowly breathing on the top of all of them, and immediately did everything I could to save it. There was not much life left, but even a few breaths to me, was worth trying to save. A 14 inch dark blue Koi... I massaged, aerated, salted and watched over until the point it was no longer floating sideways. Within a few hours, he was back to normal and I released him into the beautiful pond at the retail location. After a second chance on life, he deserved to live in a big pond. Yes, I was teased for talking to him... even whispering... and that is when a customer said she's a "Koi Whisperer." |
Now, Zen Living by design has a complete design center studio, gallery and a retail store that is surrounded by Japanese Gardens, Koi Ponds, and The Koi Whisperer Sanctuary... all located on two beautiful acres on the Fox River. The Koi Whisperer Sanctuary has expanded to Rescue, Heal, Educate on Holistic Koi Care and place Koi into adoptive pond homes. I am honored to have been registered as a Nishikigoi dealer in Japan in 2011, and continue to import Nishikigoi directly for clients. www.zenlivingbydesign.com |
