MaryEllen Malinowski
MaryEllen first fell in love with her camera at the age of 10, and has been captive ever since. An international award winning fine art photographer, author and publisher; this visionary artist's captivating black and white infrared photography captures light that is beyond our visible spectrum... opening our eyes to the ethereal brilliance that embraces us and our world."M" has been working on a film documentary of capturing the infrared light that exists with Japanese Gardens through out the world. Through visual interpretation with water, stone, the human element, nature, and light... the transformation begins. With her personal studies in Japanese Design, and after installing her first Koi pond - that is where she was captivated with the Japanese Koi and has been ever since.
“I found throughout my years of working with this particular light, that infrared light lives where it is drawn to, where there is an energy, a higher level of vibration. To focus on this particular discovery brings documentation that has never before been recorded in the history of Japanese Gardens. With that same understanding is the connection with the Koi and the communicative energy that is involved with these amazing creatures. It is my honor and a privilege to work within these gardens and reveal the invisible light and energy that lives there.” - M
M has found her true passion with Living Art... Koi.

The Koi Whisperer Sanctuary
Import, Rescue, Heal, Adopt & Educate
The Koi Whisperer Sanctuary is located on the historic Fox River in St. Charles, Illinois and whispers awe with it's beautiful Japanese Gardens, Koi ponds, walking paths and Japanese Tea House... revealing the peace and tranquility that enlightens one's soul.
At The Koi Whisperer Sanctuary one of M's greatest joys is educating and preserving the Treasured Jewels of Japan ... the Nishikigoi. As a registered import dealer of Japanese Koi, M works with several breeders in bringing the highest quality of Nishikigoi to The Koi Whisperer Sanctuary for educational purposes and for her clients to purchase. The sale of the Nishikigoi and our Zen Living by design store is another avenue for raising funds for The Koi Whisperer Sanctuary.
History of Infrared Photography

There is an art to working with light that you cannot see, and infrared film that is difficult to handle and work with. The film itself must always be in total darkness... even during loading and processing. Only after the film is processed in the darkroom in complete darkness, can it be exposed to light.
The infrared photographic imagery created by MaryEllen is a black and white film which is sensitive to infrared wavelengths. In straight black and white photography, and in color, we use only the wavelengths that are in the visible spectrum, the white light. In her work, she uses infrared film as a tool to capture both the visible and invisible light spectrums. Infrared light is present in most light, although it cannot be seen by the human eye.

Infrared negatives are much thinner that your average black and white negatives, so caution again needs to be taken when working with the negatives so that they are not scratched or cracked. Transcending the level of photographic fine art prints, her archival prints carry a depth and texture that is rare in the world of photographic print collections. Each infrared gelatin silver print is created, titled, numbered (in limited editions) and signed by the artist.
Infrared photographic prints are offered through The Infrared Light Gallery that is exhibited here at The Koi Whisperer Sanctuary, from both an infrared negative and digital infrared photography. Our infrared prints are printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art 100% Cotton Rag, 308 gsm, and Bamboo Papers and matched with the finest Epson photo printers and Epson pigment-based archival inks. Epson's Micro-Piezo print head technology features 6 color, 2880 dpi printing with true black archival inks rated up to 200 years light fastness. The Infrared Light Gallery® Limited Edition Photographic Prints are signed by MaryEllen Malinowski on the verso of the print and the lower right hand corner of the Archival 100% Rag 4 ply Mat. Infrared prints are limited in editions and follow the same archival process as the infrared gelatin silver prints.
